Shopping Online for Window Treatments

Shopping for window treatments can be difficult if you're not sure what to look for. There are several things to think about when selecting just the right treatment for a window. Just keep in mind that the decision is based on personal preference more than anything. Using the following tips should help in making the right decision.

Buying Window Treatments:

  1. Be prepared. Measure your windows before you go online shopping so you can be sure to select the right size window treatments.
  2. Be sure to read all the details, including measurements, quantity (does it comes as a single panel or a pair?), color, materials and any additional information.
  3. Contact the customer service department if anything is unclear. If something isn't clear or you have any questions, it's always best to ask rather than order the wrong item, only to return it later.
  4. Be sure to read the return policy, as the online retailer may or may not accept returns for orders unless the item is defective, damaged or the order is incorrect.
  5. Be aware that colors online may not be exactly the same in person as they are on your monitor. Colors vary from monitor to monitor.
  6. Product images are for display purposes only and may not reflect exactly how something will look at home.
  7. Remember that different window treatments may work better in different rooms. Draperies are usually heavier than curtains. Shutters will let in more light than shades and blinds Consider what overall effect you would like.
  8. Think about the size of the room while browsing online. For example, regular curtains, shades or blinds may do well in the bedroom, while drapes will work well in the living room.
  9. Consider style. Look for a window treatment that goes along with your current home decor.
  10. Bigger isn't always better. Don't get something that overpowers the window. For example, a simple set of curtains with a valance would be nice for a small kitchen window.

Another thing to remember - while window treatments may be appealing to a Buyer, they add almost no $$ value according to most appraisers.  The only window treatment that can add value to your home is Plantation Shutters.  They are an investment for sure. But 90% of the time, they are appealing to buyers and you will love the look and the ease of cleaning.

Shop for your own enjoyment.  After all, you are the one living in your home.  Have fun!
