Plantation Shutters

Plantation shutters were something I had always wanted for my home and in my Phoenix home, I finally had them.  Then we moved to Omaha.....starting all over again.  Plantation shutters are definitely an investment.  An appraiser once told me that they are the ONLY type of window treatments that he would give any value to in an appraisal.  You can spend a lot of money on custom made soft window treatments and you'll probably enjoy them for a long time.  But when it comes to selling your home someday, I always have to come back to "what adds value to your home".  Soft window treatments are usually a matter of taste and taste vary.  Most Buyers move in and the first thing they do is take down those custom made window treatments that you spent so much money on.  Not so much with the shutters.  And with shutters, there is really no need for soft window treatments.  The shutters are enough all by themselves.

Plantation shutters are a great way to add tangible value to your home without having to do any major reconstructive projects. The popularity stems primarily from their ability to not just make the windows look better but add to them a certain level of class and polished finishing that will often be the actual reason someone chooses to buy your home over another.

They come in many different styles and are great for adding variety and color to the home. Think of them as the crown molding of the windows, the final piece that set them apart as an up-grade. They really are an attractive window covering that allow you to balance and give elegance to any room you have.

Vinyl Plantation Shutters

Typically these types of shutters are made from wood or reconstituted wooden products. The name plantation shutter is given because the original wood that was used to make the shutter is plantation wood. And not surprising the name also refers to the time period in which they were first made, the early colonial periods.

Vinyl Plantation Shutters are painted or spray painted with a vinyl finish in order to deliver the same wooden look, but of course is synthetic. This replicated production actually adds years to the shutters because the durability and particularly the resistance to moisture make them a better fit in a lot of homes.

Faux Wood Shutters

Faux wood shutters are made from materials that contains vinyl or polymers, sometimes wood is also mixed with it to give the desired grainy feel or to make the texture nice. They are an inexpensive alternates to using wood shutters. It is important to understand that they can never replace the feel and grainy texture of wood shutters, but they definitely offer an inexpensive alternate especially for areas with high moisture possibility.
Wood shutters are considered furniture and are a bit of a luxury while faux wooden ones aim to get as close to the visual aesthetics offered by wood but at a cheaper price. Relatively, faux wood shutters can be cheaper by up to a third of the prices. They are mostly used for interiors and can provide an elegant look to your windows.
